This sad page collects dust, and if only I blogged as much as I thought about blogging. Boy, I'd be caught up! But really though, it seems crazy to me to catch up on this blog when my photography blog is like 2 years behind. It's this photographer guilt that if I spent a single second on personal photos, mass chaos will erupt in my email like, "But where are my photos?!" I'm sure no one would say that, but it's how I feel. I really wish there was more time in each day. I spend my days/nights going NON STOP and feeling bad for everything I forget to do. Or don't make time to do. Ugh.
For now, this camping trip. We love camping. The boys are in pure heaven each and every time we go. Clint took the boys while I was photographing an out of town wedding over the summer, but I hadn't gone with them yet. I never had Saturdays open last summer and still feel bad about it, so I marked a few off this year, special for camping. Stuff happened, we got busy. So this is the one and only family trip we did so far this year. I had to document it! The boys talked about it for weeks it seemed. They planned out what fish they were going to catch, mostly. The whole drive there, pure excitement for the weekend ahead. It's so much fun when we get to spend time together! It was crazy busy, but we managed to find a good enough spot and got working to set things up. Since I am pregnant and pretty much never sleep, super bad combo by the way.. I was kind of worthless. Clint basically did everything with an occasional, "Babe, can you hold this." Or grab that for me or whatever. Then I was right back to my camping chair watching the boys work hard.
We gathered firewood. Even I helped with that part. We explored. We fished, the kids shot the bow and arrow. We drove around and seriously loved every minute of it. The boys love to play with fire, which is something they take after both Clint and I. We roasted smores, ate simple things like hot dogs and chips. Clint's dad and step mom even brought us food that first night and spent the evening fishing with us. The boys loved that. They would have stayed for smores, but it started to rain. It rained long and hard! We all got soaked. The tent we use is an old tent that my brother in law, Aaron, let us use years ago. It was new then, and has been in our garage ever since. Now it's old and leaky. We have never been rained on while camping in this tent, so we learned that water seeped right in through the cracks. Bode had a momentary freak out and suggested we all sleep in the truck. Owen suggested a hotel. We toughed it out and ended up sleeping alright. I was on an air mattress, so I didn't get very wet. The boys did get a bit of water under their sleeping bags, and dripped onto their faces. We dried out all our gear the next morning, and even though it rained again the next night, it wasn't nearly as much as the first night. Owen said rain makes camping funner. I'm not sure if I agree, but we survived!
Anyway, we made lots of memories and laughed and had an amazing time. I love this family of mine.
Highlights of the trip:
Seeing river otters.
Seeing birds scoop up fish from the river and then fly away.
Catching fish.
Seeing the salmon spawning.
Making water rockets in the fire.
The boys' mis matched outfits. (ok this is one of my highlights.)
