11 Months Old

Ok so I am a little late on this. Owen will be a year old in 20 days! I can’t even believe it. He is the sweetest, cutest, smallest, smartest most adorable baby. We all love him so much! Not my most favorite way to blog.. but here goes some bullet points!

  • He’s always happy!
  • Super Tough.  He will scrape his knee or fall down or anything and not shed a tear or barely even flinch. My neighbor asked me if he has that disease where babies can’t feel when they get hurt. He literally brushes it off and acts like nothing happened.
  • He’s STILL wearing size 2 diapers. They fit him just fine. I actually bought 3s and they are huge.
  • He waves when people leave and come into the room. He even says, “Hi.” Whenever Clint comes home from work I will say HI DAD! And the other day Owen said, “Hi Da.”
  • He points at things and it’s adorable. He picked that one up from Bode.
  • He can clap. If I tell him to clap he does it or if he does something good (like catches himself instead of falling or something) he will clap for himself.
  • He can say mama, dada, and baba referring to all of us in the house.
  • He blows on stuff if it’s hot and says “HA!” It’s pretty cute. I taught him that making dinner one night and I kept telling him it was hot and pointing to the stove and saying hot. He pointed and blew and said, “HA!” I called Clint and let him know that our baby is practically a genius. :)
  • He understands “No” and knows when he’s doing something he shouldn’t be. For example.. he will walk over to the TV and get ready to turn it off and look back at me like.. um…. I’m about to do this. I will tell him no and he will slyly turn back around and do it anyway. We are working on that!
  • He can back his way off of anything. The couch, the bed, the stairs, the porch, the sidewalk curb, etc. It’s so funny to watch him turn around, scoot back, and make his way off of something. If it’s the couch or bed he will grab onto the sheets or couch cushions so tight and slowly make his way down.
  • He can manage his way out of the cart at the grocery store, he can climb out of his high chair - One morning I was upstairs going to the bathroom and Bode yells at me, “MOM!!! Owen is on the kitchen table!” This came as a shock especially since I left him in his highchair eating blueberries. Now we strap that boy in!  He can easily gets out of the bumbo, tries to get out of his stander and has almost been successful. He can seriously wiggle his way out of just about anything.
  • Loves to ruin nicely folded piles of clothes. I’m talking about grabbing stuff left and right and making a huge mess. He loves standing by his dresser drawers and taking clothes out by the handfuls.
  • Loves getting a hold of wipes and taking all of them out.
  • Crawls like a champ. He’s super fast.
  • He took his first 5 or 6 steps last week, but hasn’t walked since. He didn’t realize he was all on his own when he did it and when he does know he automatically drops to his bum. He’s kind of a chicken like that, but he definitely has the balance and will be just fine when he gets the courage. He stands on his own a lot more lately.
  • He got his first tooth a few weeks ago and it was not easy for that sucker to break through. He was extra clingy, had a runny nose, and was extra sensitive for about a week and I didn’t know what was going on. I kept checking his mouth expecting that it was from teething. One morning I thought to myself a tooth has GOT to be coming through or Owen is getting sick. I checked and although it was swollen and like a white bump, there was not a tooth. Later that night Clint was feeding him dinner and said, “Oh hey babe Owen has a tooth.”  I was like, “AHH! No way! That just came in like TODAY.” Good times. He got the second bottom tooth a few days after that.
  • He loves to swim holy cow. Whenever we go swimming I have to try my hardest not to let him drown. If it was up to him, he’d have drowned a long time ago. He has no fears. He wants to swim and be left alone and he doesn’t care if he goes under water. At 7 peaks he will play in the wave pool where it gradually gets deeper and just keeps crawling deeper and deeper. Once the water hits his face he keeps going and closes his mouth or blows bubbles. I have let him keep going one time to see what he would do and he just started floating and kept on kicking while keeping his mouth closed. This kid!! It’s crazy how much he loves the water.
  • He wears anywhere from size 3 month clothes to about 6-9 months depending on the brand. He’s pretty little though.
  • His hair is getting longer and oh so cute. He’s got the mullet going on.
  • He loves Bode and has the best time with him. Bode can get him giggling so hard and it’s so cute. He especially loves it when Bode runs towards him, makes waves in the tub, and roars like a dinosaur (Owen roars too.) If Bode is crying Owen will fake cry right along with him. They go to bed the same time a lot of nights and Clint and I can hear on the monitor them giggling away. It is adorable.
  • He is still a huge momma’s boy and nursing about 3 times a day or more.
  • He has finally been sleeping through the night for about a month or more now! It’s so nice. It’s usually 7pm-7am except for the mornings he wakes up at 6am and thinks he’s up for the day. He’s so happy to be alive and ready to start a new day and I die a little inside every time.
  • He naps twice a day. Once around 9-10 and again around 1-2. They last anywhere from one hour to two.
  • He recognizes sounds like doors opening and phones ringing and the microwave beeping and knows what they all mean. As soon as Clint opens the door and comes in from work Owen books it to meet him at the door.
  • His favorite foods right now are avocado, strawberries, blueberries and bananas.
  • He likes to have his space to explore and get into trouble, but still LOVES cuddling. I love that.
  • When he is in his highchair he leans over as far as his strap will let him (ya know.. because we have to buckle him in now) and he will throw food onto the floor while watching it land.
  • Sings and dances. Funniest thing ever.

I’m sure there are more things, but I’m going to call it good for now. I’m so glad this baby is mine. I love him to pieces.

Owen!

I’m pretty sure I have missed the last few months of updating this little squirt. Here is my attempt to catch up!

9 Month Stats:

  • Length: 27 3/4  – 25%
  • Weight: 17 lbs. 10 oz. – 10%
  • Head Circ: 46.9 – 80%

He’s still just a small fella! We sure do love our Owen. He is the greatest baby, seriously. He is very happy and playful and likes to discover things on his own. He’s very easy going and so is his schedule. He definitely does have a schedule, but if life gets us off track and he is late for a nap or bedtime or just whatever he is so amazingly flexible. I love that about him! He’s kind of entered into the stranger danger phase and can be hesitant towards strangers. He loves his big brother and Bode loves him. They are buds. They like to do everything together. They even share a room now! He still wears a size 2 diaper and he is 6-9 month clothes. Sometimes he will fit a 12 month shirt or something. He got a healthy bill of health from the pediatrician at his last check up and had huge smiles for the nurse who gave him a shot. She said it was hardly fair that she had to inflict pain on him since he liked her so much. He was not happy for the shots, but he still had big smiles for her after all was said and done. He still has a small herniated belly button, but nothing to be alarmed about. It’s the cutest outie I have ever seen. I happen to love it. He’s got small patches of white skin under his diaper – below his belly button. We need to watch out for Vitiligo, but I’m hoping it’s nothing serious.

He’s 10 months old now and I can’t even believe in a few short months he will be a year old. He started talking and his first sound was “baba” He does not take bottles, so I’m thinking he was trying to say Bode. Now he will say Mama, Dada, Bode, and mimic a wave and a kiss. I’ll ask him sometimes where is Daddy? Or bode? or Mommy? And he usually looks right at who I am talking about. He is working on getting two bottom teeth and it’s so cute! It’s two white bumps and I keep waiting for them to cut through any day now. He still nurses and I’m honestly afraid he will never want to quit. I’m worried I’ll be like the woman on the cover of TIME magazine nursing a 3 year old. Ok not really, but I do need help with weaning. Any nursing mamas have advice?

Owen usually wakes up around 6:30-7am and will take his first hour and a half/two hour nap around 9-9:30. His second nap is around 2-2:30 for about 2 hours and he goes to bed around 6:30-7:00 for the night. He still wakes up once or twice to nurse and goes right back to bed. I still can’t even believe I get up with him because I KNOW he should be sleeping through the night, but oh well. I’m not blaming anyone but myself for not being more strict about it.

He still eats like a champ and loves avocados, buddy fruits, any kind of fruit – especially blueberries, peaches and pears. He is getting better about drinking liquids from a sippy and we switch from water, whole milk, soy milk, watered down juice, fruit smoothies or honestly I will just give him the buddy fruits as a drink with a meal. I feel like I need to make whatever he will drink count since he’s never been a fan of formula. His pediatrician scolded me for not making him drink it.

He loves to swim and has NO fear whatsoever. He always makes this cute weird face and blows in and out from his nose with his mouth closed over and over again. It’s hilarious. His tongue is still out of control and usually always curled. He walks along stuff and will grab for things with both hands and not realize that he’s standing on his own. As soon as he realizes it, he drops to the ground. I’m thinking he may be walking as soon as he gets the courage. He already has the stability. Well, he’s working on it.

Owen is always full of smiles and I just love him to pieces. I don’t know what I’d do without my momma’s boy!

Little Guy

I got off his immunization schedule by two weeks. The Dr. was out of one shot one time.. and so we’ve been a few weeks off ever since.  He had his 6 month check and everything is looking good. The Dr. was running a little late and it was next to impossible to entertain him on that little bed/chair thing in the room! He doesn’t like to be held and since that bed was so small it made me nervous to just let him crawl all over it. He would crawl right to the edge and not stop if I wasn’t there to save him every time. I got desperate and after 20 minutes of waiting I grabbed a bunch of the paper stuff that was on the bed and put it all over the floor. I just let him crawl on that. So embarrassing when the Dr. came in and I’m letting my baby crawl on the floor, but like I said.. I was getting desperate! Bode was supposed to be in preschool, but the ONE day I plan for something it gets cancelled. So he was in there not making things any easier on me. The Dr. could barely check anything on Owen because all he wanted to do was move and roll over. At one point I said, “Now you see why I let him on the floor!” He just did that fake chuckle like, “Uh huh.. you’re crazy lady.”

He’s hitting every milestone developmentally as he should (and then some.) He’s eating solid food like a champ, he’s crawling, he’s sitting (for like two seconds before he wants to be crawling again) he’s trying to pull himself up on small things,  and he’s just doing great all around. I was a little worried because he is really small now! The dr. assured me that he is totally fine and not to worry about it. He said once babies are super active and have a developmental growth spurt they can slow down physically. Bode was always in the 80-90% for everything so I just feel like I am not giving him enough milk or something! I felt super good when he was 2-4 months and all fat and now I’m feeling bad that he’s 6 months and small-ish. Nursing really sucks in that way because all the guilt/pressure is on me to grow him! I had been worried about it  because when I was really sick for those few months I could tell he wasn’t growing as fast. I just thought it was because me being so sick was making my milk not as nutritive? I really have no clue. I knew all along he was smaller though because I can tell clothes that he should be grown out of are still fitting him. He still wears some of his 0-3 month stuff! I kept telling Clint that I thought he was losing weight! He’s like no way look at those cheeks.. he’s fine. And I will say that his chubby cheeks are very deceiving! He seems satisfied and he loves solid food, so hopefully he’ll chunk back up in the months to come. So anyway, his stats are:

Height: 25.25 inches – 7%

Weight: 17.03 lbs. – 33%

Head: I can’t remember the measurement but it’s 80%.

We sure do love our little guy.

4 Months Old

Owen Fisher Romney is FOUR months old. 4. I can’t even believe it. Time is flying right by me. He is such a sweet, good baby. I feel so blessed to be his mom! His check up went pretty well, although he’s not getting shots until next week. They were out of one vaccination at his 2 month check up and I had to go back in the next week for it. I’m not doing the whole two time thing forever so I will wait until next week for all of them. He was so good for the Dr. and cooed and smiled away. He almost rolled right off the table a few times, so we had to watch him pretty good!

STATS:

  • 15 lbs. 5 oz. – 55%
  • 25 inches tall – 50%
  • Head is 44 cm – 90%

He’s doing great!! Bode had a big head too. Both have perfectly round big heads.  I guess Clint and I can’t make them any other way. :) I looked back on Bode’s 4 month stats just to compare the boys. Here they are.

  • 16 lbs. 9 oz. - 75%
  • 24 3/4 inches tall - 50%
  • Head is 43.2 cm - 75%

They are both pretty darn close to each other! And who knows how accurate these are with squirmy babies and what not. I knew Bode was fatter, although Owen’s cheeks are pretty chub-a-licious.

  • Owen is a drooly mess these days. His clothes always end up being soaked all down the front.
  • He’s rolling around like crazy. He can make his way across a room just by rolling. I have to be careful because he always rolls off our rug onto the hardwood floor.
  • He’s got a cyst on his lower gums, but I guess it’s normal. It just looks like a hard little white bump and it should go away on it’s own.
  • He talks to us now and it’s adorable. I always tell Clint that the louder he squawks the more tired he is. He can get pretty loud! He especially likes to “talk” if he’s being talked to.
  • He’s always willing to give me big smiles and he loves to stare at Bode running all over the house.
  • His schedule is ever changing and some days he will go 2 hours awake and 2 hours asleep instead of the 1. I can lay him in his crib awake and he’ll go right to sleep.
  • I keep bringing up the standy-up toy thing every few weeks and Owen is FINALLY big enough for it. He loves it!
  • He’s not such a good sleeper at night. :( Bode was amazing by this age, and although I hate to compare the boys it’s kind of hard not to. Owen wakes up every 2-3 hours to eat. UGH! I do get one 3-5 hour stretch most nights, but just the one and then it’s back to every few hours. It’s usually from 8-midnight and I never go to bed until midnight.  I couldn’t nurse Bode exclusively so I know that makes a difference, but still. I know of BF babies who sleep great. Oh well. He wakes up for like 5 minutes to eat and goes right back to sleep, so it’s not like he’s keeping me up all night. He starts out asleep in his crib in Bode’s room, or the swing, or sometimes the bassinet, but by the middle of the night he always ends up in bed with me. Another thing I NEVER did with Bode. It’s easier for me not to have to wake up every few hours and go and nurse him and then try and get him to go back to sleep when he usually fusses a bit. I don’t want to wake up the whole house and so in my bed he goes. Of course when he’s in bed with me he never fusses. I feel like if he had his own room that his sleeping patterns would be better. Another big OH WELL because he doesn’t have his own room. We tried to do a sleep over with Bode in our bed to get Owen used to the crib all night, but by 10pm Bode started crying that he just wanted to sleep in his own bed. Poor thing never slept with us EVER and so he’s just not comfortable with the change. It’s a goal of mine to get both boys to sleep in the room together! We’ll see how that goes!!!

Stats

I took Bode and Owen to the Doctor last week for a combined check up. Clint was going to come with me, but ended up having to work. It would have been a good idea had Clint been with me… but 2 boys at the Dr. both getting shots with just little old me was NOT fun. Never again.

Owen is doing great! He’s so chunky and all is well. Here are the little guys stats:

  • Weight - 12.71 lbs. – 70%
  • Height - 23.5 inches – 67%
  • Head - 15.9 inches – 59%

Bode is also doing great. Here are his 3 year stats:

  • Weight – 35.4 lbs. – 83% (This was fully clothed!)
  • Height – 39.5 inches – 90%
  • They didn’t measure his head! ha-ha.

I’m really blessed to have two happy healthy boys! Bode got his shots first and flipped out. It was so sad. I was trying to console him so I scooped him right up off that table and started patting his back and saying, “Oh honey! I’m sorry. It’s ok. You’ll feel better in a few minutes.. it’s ok.. “ Bode barked back, “I am NOT honey! I am Bode Clinton Romney and STOP burping me!!!”

Owen was up next. I had finally calmed down Bode and he helped me hold one of Owen’s hands, and I held the other one. Owen got the shots and started crying immediately! It was just so sad. :( I picked him up and calmed him down and I look over and Bode was crying again. He was so upset that his brother was upset. What a mess! I’m glad Bode won’t need another check up until he starts school because I can’t handle that again! I felt like crying with the boys. Bode talked about his “meam meam doctors” for days after that. It’s hard trying to explain to a 3 year old that Doctors are not mean, they are just helping prevent us from getting sick. It’s way over his head! Just like trying to convince Bode that I can turn right on a red light is ok too. He always tells me I shouldn’t have gone because the light wasn’t green. AHH!

This is Owen after we got home. I just love his chunky legs!!

You can kind of tell that he has a small hernia on his belly button. :( Dr. says it will go away on it’s own.
