A Nerdy Halloween

I really wanted the whole family to dress up for Halloween this year. Before Bode was born Clint and I were pretty lame. We never dressed up. Bode’s first Halloween he spent in the NICU, the second he was a monkey, and this year he was a nerd! When I pitched the idea to Clint he was all for it. I thought he’d be a bump on a log and say he didn’t want to dress up, but he was good to go.
My cousin, Sara, threw an awesome Halloween party and so that is the first time I dressed Bode up. He refused to wear the glasses and threw a fit when I tried to make him. He didn’t like the sweater vest being tucked in and kept grabbing at it. He was still pretty darn cute though!

For trick or treating night he did awesome! Clint was in charge of getting Bode ready while I got ready. He came upstairs with everything on, including the glasses! I couldn’t believe it. Clint said he didn’t do anything special to make him but that he wanted to wear them. Bode kept saying, “Mom! I’n a nerd!” He was the cutest nerd I ever did see. It was raining and cold out so we went trick or treated at the South Towne mall first. It was packed and Clint didn’t enjoy the hundreds of people, but we did have fun. Bode was so cute walking around saying his trick or treat and thanks. He wouldn’t let go of that pumpkin all night long!

We went to the mall with some of our friends, and this is one of the families. What a cute bunch of kids.

After the mall we had dinner at Chipotle in Sandy. No one in the place was in costume and I felt pretty dumb. I was trying to situate myself in the skirt after I stood up and Clint informed me that I nearly flashed everyone in the whole place. Oops. After dinner we drove home and car trick or treated to maybe 10 houses. It was miserable and we had tons of better candy than Bode was getting at home anyway. We passed out candy to trick or treaters until about 7:45 then turned off our light and put Bode to bed. We are lame, I know. We still managed to go through 5 lbs of candy! It’s better that we don’t have it lying around the house.

Bode embraced his inner nerd and was trying so hard to be believable. He tried to copy everything Clint did. The glasses kept slipping off his face and he pushed them back in true nerd style. We were laughing so hard! I set up the timer on my camera for some candid shots and Bode was having so much fun! He was laughing so hard! We had such a great time this year. I just love my little family.  A few people asked for our picture, we got tons of “You are the best costumes all night!”s and at least 4 people at church today said, “Oh, hey!  It’s the nerds!” It was awesome. :) Bode had the time of his life and even tried to sleep with his pumpkin. He didn’t eat a ton of candy yesterday, but carried it around all night. Today on the other hand…. Um yeah. We’ve all had waaaaay too much!
Happy Halloween Everyone!

Why can't you live in Iowa anymore so I could pay you a million dollars to take pics of my family!!?! You are awesome! Your family is so darling and I love all your pics. It is so fun to be able to read your posts as well. I just love how blogs can help old friends stay connected. :) Do you and Stef Rowley still keep in touch? I haven't seen her since her wedding and I thought since you were both out west you might know what was up with her.
