Fly Fishing for Carp

Clint had plans to fish with his friend Jake this morning. He really hasn’t fished much since our whole house renovation nightmare started back in October. I had a photo shoot and when I got home, he was going to leave. Well, Once Bode heard about these plans he wanted in. I mean, can you blame the kid?! He’s just a little too small to hang with Dad on fishing trips and it kills him. Clint and I were trying to talk in code about how to deal with this situation. I mouthed to him maybe he could take Bode. He mouthed back no. Then I moved my lips.. Can we all go? I’ll watch the boys? He shook his head no. He was worried about the weather and if the boys would last and I’m sure a ton of other things. They definitely put a damper on doing what you want to do sometimes. He suggested we all go tomorrow. Bode lost it and walked away in tears. Not just a few small tears… No they were big crocodile tears. It was so so so sad. Clint stood there thinking for a minute then walked into another room. He made a phone call and the next thing we know, we are all going! Happy day for these fish obsessed boys! It was a mad dash to hurry and get ready. I packed up lunches, snacks, anything else I thought we would need and Clint loaded up the car with the gear.

It was cold and windy but they didn’t complain. The boys didn’t catch any fish, but Clint let them reel in the fish he caught. It was so cute seeing them all excited! Jake also caught one and brought it over for the boys to see. It didn’t take too long for us to be ready to go, but they were over the moon to have been able to go. Even Owen who stepped in the cold water half way through and had to sit down or be carried around barefoot the rest of the time. While I was carrying him on the trail back to the car and he said, “That fishing was so fun mom!”

I took the boys back home and left Clint to stay the rest of the evening, and they were dead asleep a few minutes after we got on the road. It was a successful afternoon if you ask me! Thanks Clint for letting us tag along on your trip. You made Bode and Owen very happy!
