The other afternoon I needed to get ready to go somewhere and so I had the boys in my room. Owen was crawling around and standing up on stuff and Bode was watching TV. He asked me if it would be ok if he played with Owen. I said, “Of course!” He said, “No mom. I mean in my room.” I thought this was odd but he’s so good with him I said it would be fine as long as the door was shut. I did my makeup, then moved onto my hair, all the while the boys were giggling and playing away. I think I heard Bode trying to read Owen a book at one point. He can’t read, but he was making up the words. It was so cute.
A few minutes later Bode came into my room and was like, “Hey mom. What’s up.” I kind of panicked! I’m like ahhhh!! Where’s Owen? Did you leave the door open? I was thinking that by now he was probably almost to the landing about to crash down the flight of stairs. We don’t have baby gates around here. I didn’t with Bode and figured we’d be fine without them for Owen too. Bode could tell I was panicking, so as we both ran around the corner and out of my room he was saying, “Mom!!! It’s alright! He’s safe!” I turn the corner to see this.
Bode tried to barricade his brother in. It’s kind of hard to tell in these pictures – but he grabbed two pillows, two towels, 3 blankets including his comforter, and the red fire truck. Although I’m sure Owen could eventually crawl his way right over this stuff, it made my heart melt. Bode is such a great big brother.
I can’t even believe at one point I had wished Owen to be a girl. I wouldn’t have it any other way now!
