Mr. Polite

This kid is just something else. Lately he’s been SO polite. He always says his please, thank you, ‘scuse me, sorry, etc. Lots of people comment to me how polite he is. Just on Sunday some kid shoved him right over in nursery (it was a ROUGH nursery day let me tell you..) and he turned around and said to the kid, “Oh sorry! ‘Scuse me.” Don’t let that fool you because he has full fledged brat in him sometimes. He’s been the pusher, spitter, etc plenty of times too.  No matter how polite he tries to be, he never caught on to No Thank you. For the longest time he was stuck on NO mommy! No no! No! It was the terrible twos tantrum style refusal to do things he didn’t want to do. I tried and tried to get him to say no thank you. I put him in time outs whenever he was rude and screamed no. I tried to explain to him that sometimes we need to do things we don’t want to do and he can be nicer at letting me know he’s upset yada yada. It just didn’t stick. For the past week that’s all he says is no thank you! Out of nowhere he just said it one day!  I tell him he needs to take another bite of a meal. His response, “No thank you.” Bode it’s time for a nap. “No thanks mommy.” Come on Bode lets hurry and get ready to go! “No thank you.” He’s so darn cute and I want to reward him for being polite.. but the poor kid is learning quick just because he says no thank you doesn’t mean he can get away with not doing something!
