To the Zoo

We finally made it to the dinosaurs at the Zoo. I have to say… it was a nightmare! Bode was TERRIFIED of them. He would cry, scream for me to move his stroller away from them, and hide his eyes. I thought he’d love it and I was so disappointed. He even brought a bunch of his dinosaurs from home and talked about how we were going to see some the entire drive over. It was really strange though, because as soon as we’d leave seeing a dino – he’d tell me we needed to go find some more. He didn’t want to see anything else at the zoo. He only wanted to find more dinosaurs, then we’d find more and he’d freak out again. FUN right? Imagine 2 hours of that.

I tried meeting up with my friend, but we got separated within 2 seconds of meeting up. I was sweating to death in the reptile house, and Bode was crying for more dinosaurs. He didn’t want to see a thing in that house. Neither of us had very good cell service so I couldn’t even call her. I missed a call from Clint at that same time (who I hadn’t heard from in almost 2 days!!!) so I was trying to call him… I couldn’t hear anything, my battery died, I never did reach Clint, Bode was screaming, my friend was nowhere to be found, I was all frazzled so I just ventured off on my own!

This one below spit out water and it was Bode’s LEAST favorite. I mean, he hated them all but he was absolutely horrified by this one. I couldn’t even stroll him near it. He was so scared and threw the biggest fit ever.

I tried to show him Zuri, the baby elephant, and some monkeys, but he just kept crying for more dinosaurs. We didn’t even make it to half the zoo because he wasn’t into anything else. I figured I wasn’t going to walk around any more than I had to! Who takes their kid to the Zoo at 9 months prego in the middle of summer anyway?

I bought tickets to ride the carousel and also the train. Bode didn’t want anything to do with the carousel and I was so fed up with his whining and crying at this point, I was determined to get my moneys worth on the stupid carousel! He finally agreed to ride on it if he could get a zebra. I told him ok and we waited in line. There were only 2 zebras, and what do ya know? They were taken before we got to them. He was so mad and threw yet another fit! AHHH!! He finally agreed to sit on some lame bench with me. Half way through he’s like, “Mom, I’n ready to get off.” Of course. The first picture below is him saying, “No more pictures!” The second is him on the bench riding the carousel.

Next up.. the train! The line for the train was ridiculous. The zoo was about to close and the train was just about done for the night. I couldn’t have my stroller in line so I had to grab my purse, camera bag, and Bode had to get all his dinosaurs. It was SO hot and I was a sweaty mess. I’m hating being so big in the heat of the summer. When I’m not pregnant, I’m not a sweater. Sweating is seriously gross. I feel for people who sweat normally. I thought my feet would swell up for sure, but thankfully they didn’t. This is Bode and I waiting in line. That brown blur is my huge stomach.

I offered to hold all 4 dinosaurs, but he didn’t want me touching them.

He decided he wanted his hands free to swing on the wooden bars that separated the line to the train. He couldn’t part with his dinosaurs, so he stuffed them in his shirt. It was pretty funny.

Bode LOVED the train! He was so sweet and cute the entire 30 seconds of it. Ok – it was a bit longer than 30 seconds, but I swear we waited longer for it than we rode on it. He kept pointing to everything and telling me thank you so much and he was having too much fun and all this cute stuff. I was thinking it’d be good to end the zoo on a good note, so after the train ride we were done. It probably wasn’t even worth the money I spent, but such is life!

Kids have their good days and also their bad ones. It’s too bad being a mom isn’t easier, but it’s a good thing it’s worth it!

I ended up getting Bode a bucket of dinos from the gift shop. I really don’t think he deserved them, but he’s been loving them this last week. He plays with them everyday and he is not a toy kid. After we left the zoo he was so thankful for the new toys and talking about how much fun he had. It’s funny his memory is a bit off from mine, but I’m glad he thought it was fun! I know he was just scared, but no matter what causes crying it still makes me so mad.

We stopped at a restaurant for dinner and actually had a pretty fun little date together. He was being so sweet! He kept telling me thanks so much for everything and I was too pretty and so nice and he loved me too much, etc. He knows how to work it after he’s been misbehaving!

Clint was out of town the day we ventured off to the Zoo, but he told Clint all about it once he got home. This is what he said…..

“Dad! We went to the zoo and saw DINOSAURS!!! They were screamin’ and so so big! One spwayed water!!!! I was too scared and cried like a baby.”

That is too funny! (In restrospect of course - I can imagine how frustrating that would have been for you.) We were there Monday and Marshall was loving it. I wondered if he'd be too young to get into it, but he seemed to have a good time. I wish we would have been there the same time.

That sounds EXACTLY like how it went with Elli. She still talks about the scary dinosaurs-and I too was so disappointed :( Props to you for going anywhere nine months pregnant and I agree that you are the CUTEST pregnant lady ever!
