Pink Eye, Double Ear Infections and a Cold

Last week was not fun. The first night the pink eye arrived Clint was off to a soccer game. The game was in Kaysville (an hour away) and didn’t start until midnight. He helped me get the boys in bed and took off so he’d be there early. Around 10:30 Bode woke up crying that his eyes hurt really bad. Owen was awake to eat, but couldn’t finish because I had to leave him to check on big brother. Bode’s eyes were all gross and all he wanted was for me to rock him. I rocked him and sang him songs and tried to comfort him and put him back in bed. I changed my shirt that Bode had snotted all on and rubbed his eyes on while I was holding him and sanitized myself then went back to try and nurse Owen back to sleep. Poor Owen was so upset that I had left him and the normal eat and drift right back off to sleepy land routine was out the window and he was wide awake. Thirty minutes later and Bode is up again. Bode is the kid who can throw up and roll over and go back to bed in the night. He usually never bugs us even when he’s sick. So I knew he was feeling pretty awful. :( I finally got Bode back in bed and laid with him for a while. It was nice not to have to worry about Owen this time..I was so glad to get him back asleep.  A little while later and both boys are awake ….. again!  I had to change my shirt and wipe down each time I went back and forth because I was so worried to spread germs to Owen. What a night!

By the time Clint got home at 2:15am Owen was sound asleep and I was laying by Bode just holding him. Bode was FINALLY asleep and Clint walked into the room, turned on the light and was going to put the over the counter eye drops that he picked up in Bode’s eyes. (I had texted him earlier what an awful night we were having and told him that my sister Kelli said they had over the counter meds that he should get… along with some Lysol disinfectant.)  So I whisper yelled to him, “Turn off the light!” I did not want to wake up Bode. Clint was telling me we needed to get the drops in and I was saying he had NO idea what went down all night and to let him sleep and worry about drops when he woke up again. Bode heard us and  woke up. He was actually pretty happy though! I was shocked. I swear I’m always stuck with the whiny crying miserable kids and the second Clint strolls in they are magically happy! I was like ok… I promise it WAS as bad as I said it was. AHH! Bode was talking a mile a minute and filling in Clint on everything that happened while he was gone. I had Clint put some visine eye drops in my eyes so Bode could see what we needed to do and that it was no big deal.. and we got the drops into his eyes. It seemed to help and we got Bode back in bed. He didn’t wake up again until about 7:30am.

Needless to say all of us were exhausted the next day!

This was Bode the next morning. He was quite the trooper! We had no idea until we were at the Dr. Office that he also had the ear infections. I think the worst part of the whole ordeal is the eye drops! That first time the night before wasn’t so bad because he didn’t know what to expect I suppose. The Dr. prescribed us more and and at times I seriously wondered if any meds got into his eyes through the tears. :( He’s almost done with the antibiotic and he does really well with the drops now.

He’s doing much better now! I hope this was our first and last experience with pink eye. One can hope, right? I hate to see my baby in so much pain.

Sounds miserable.... those nights are the worst! I swear both of my kids have been sick since Ayla's b-day on the 3rd. They got a bunkbed and are sharing a room now. As I write this they are both hacking up a storm and keep waking each other up! It is no fun seeing them so sick! So glad Owen didn't get what Bode had!
