Bode was pretty sick Saturday and Sunday, but Monday morning rolled around and he was doing much better. We decided to take the family down to Fish Creek for some fishing. Clint always has these high hopes to take the whole family to his favorite places and it never turns out as well as he thinks it will. Walking up and down a river all afternoon and trying to fish is just not as fun for us as it is for him. I’d love to park it in lawn chairs next to some lake and fish from the edge – but Clint hates that kind of fishing. As we were walking with the boys along the river to find some good places we saw a few families just sitting around and fishing. I asked him why we couldn’t just do that and he said, “Because that’s not a good spot for fish.” Oh brother. Maybe one day he will just suck it up and do it for the kids. We never catch fish trying to walk around anyway. Bode throws too many rocks and I’m pretty sure scares any fish that could have been nearby. Plus Clint can’t really do his thing and get into the fish with us around. I will say that it is better than staying at home alone with two kids while he goes out and fishes all weekend.
I’m kind of a negative Nancy when it comes to doing stuff. I’m always worried about the kids and what could go wrong, not wanting to set them up for failure and stressing out about how stressed I will be. It’s not a good thing! Clint is more laid back, go with the flow, no worries, always gives the kids the benefit of the doubt – maybe stress out if something does happen, but definitely not before. I have been trying hard to be more like him, but it’s days like this that I want to be like ummmm how does fishing at that lake sound right about now?? Anywho, it wasn’t completely awful. :) The kids did have fun and surprisingly lasted quite a while.
As we were unloading our stuff from the truck we heard a train coming. Bode got so excited and wanted to run down and see it. One of the rail cars had an American flag on it and I thought it was so fitting for Memorial Day. God bless our troops and veterans!
Bode was cracking us up with his hat. He wears the thing so low that he can barely see.
We found a spot to unload our stuff along the river and I was trying to entertain Owen while Clint and Bode went off fishing. Owen lasted like 5 minutes and he was bored with the snacks and trying to crawl everywhere, eat dirt, and get into nature. I had enough of that and loaded him back up to go find Clint and Bode.
Clint fished away trying to find some trout, but it just never happened. He saw a few monsters, but couldn’t get them to go after anything. I’m sure it didn’t help that every two seconds Bode was asking him some question, or asking him for help, or whining about he wanted to catch a fish.
After a while Clint decided to catch some chubs for Bode. I guess they are taking over this river and aren’t desirable fish by any means – but Bode LOVED them just the same.
They were squirming around Bode’s bucket and he was trying to show Clint what they were doing. It was so cute and so funny watching him imitate the fish!
This was the biggest of them all and it didn’t fit in the bucket with the other 4 already in there. Bode ended up chucking it back into the river.
We saw a bunch of bones. I don’t know why but I took a picture of them.
Pretty rainbow caused by the sun flare.
I seriously love this picture below. I knew Clint wasn’t having the smashing good time he usually does on his fishing trips, but what can you expect with two kiddos. He was so patient and so good to help Bode get around.
Towards the end of the day Bode fell or something. I can’t even remember now but he had a huge meltdown.
It was after this that we decided we’d call it a day and drive the two hours back home. We saw some deer on the way and Bode thought that was pretty cool.
Before we went to fish creek we pulled off to the road in Diamond Fork canyon. I didn’t bother with my camera, but I did take a few cell phone shots. Oh and that last one if the traffic we ran into on the way home. Fun!
I’m glad that we gave it our best efforts to fish with the boys, but we decided we won’t try a trip like this until they get a bit older. We had a good time anyway. We made memories that will last us forever, so it was worth it in my book.
