My sister Erica was in town with her two kids and we all headed to a fish rodeo and carnival. When I first heard about the fish rodeo, I thought they were going to block off a part of a river and stock it with fish for the kids to catch. What really happened was they filled a large kiddie pool with a foot of water and stocked that full of tiger trout. Bode was in heaven! He ran right to where the fish were and netted one in no time at all. After that he scrapped the net and started going after them with his hands. He caught one bare handed and then it slipped out of his hands. The “fish ranger” was trying to tell him that there was a one fish limit, but he didn’t bother to listen. It was pretty cute sitting back and watching him! Clint thought it was kind of horrific to let kids catch these poor little fish and then put them in Ziploc baggies – but Bode and Logan had so much fun with it. Eva even got one too!
After they each had their fish in a bag, we headed to the carnival. It was SO hot it was pretty miserable actually. The kids had a lot of fun going from ride to ride and Bode made sure to check his fish that was under the stroller in the basket after each and every ride. We tried to keep Owen in the shade because that little thing over heats so easily. He was wanting to play and stuff, but he’s just too small for all the fun things to do. We had to hold him and push him in the stroller while he missed on the big kid rides.
After about 30 minutes Bode’s little fish died. It was pretty sad and Clint kept saying he wanted to take it to a local reservoir and let it go before that happened. Oh well. Bode kept picking up the bag to look at it and hold it and by this point water was leaking out of it. We wanted to throw it away, but I thought it would be better to just tell Bode what was up then throw it away while he was on a ride. It was super sad, but he did take his bag over to the trash and toss his fish into it. :(
After the carnival we headed back to my parent’s house and had some yummy food. What a fun day!
